Events from May 2 to 8 in Naples

ALL OF EVENTS IN NAPLES: the long waited  Maggio dei Monumenti in Naples is back… and with it the numerous initiatives to enjoy in the city.

Started Saturday the 2nd of April and available until the 6th of June 2016, the show of the artist Adrian Tranquilli, ‘Giorni di un futuro passato’, will be held in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples.

Australian of nationality, he is best known to the public for his works concerning the superheros, and they are also the main theme of the exhibition that will show a fascinating contrast with the classical operas of the museum. The works of Tranquilli, in fact, will be put along with the belonging statues to the Collection Farnese in the Farnesiane Galleries, the courtyards and the first floor. A beautiful contrast among ancient and modern heroes.

Hour: from Monday to Sunday from 10.00 am to the 6.00 am (closed on Tuesdays)

Another art event we can advert is the one that from 28 April to 28 July 2016, the PAN – Palazzo delle Arti di Napoli will prepar:, the photographic show “The Mind’s Eye” is dedicated to the French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Inside the rooms of the building, more than fifty photo works of the artist will be visible, an artist known for his skill to capture the focal moments of the history of the last century as the Cold War, the Spanish Civil War or the second World war in his awesome releases.
For his way to tell history using the images, he is considered the pioneer of photo-journalism, thanks also to his important political background of communist matrix that also costed him many years of prison.

Hour: Monday and from Wednesday to Saturday from the hours 9.30 am to 7.30 pm – Sunday from the hours 9.30 am to 2.30 pm (closed on Tuesdays)

For you, sporting tourists and lovers of the fun outside, a fantastic appointment will be held from  the 20 to 22 of May 2016 at the Mostra d’Oltremare: we are speaking of the project Napoli Bike Festival, an event that will carry out numerous activities inside the famous complex of Fuorigrotta, as well as around in the city. The principal theme of the edition of this year will be “Città a pedali”, to let the citizens apprehend the use of the bikes in the city, obviously promoting the realization of bike lanes and  bike areas.

The program will also host other appointments as debates, presentations of books, shows of art, activities for children and an area for food. You will be able, besides, to participate in a competition with vintage bikes and suits of the old ages.

Arte in Movimento

For the theater, music and neapolitan cultural traditions passionates, we suggest you the “Arte in movimento” show (art in motion), which takes place different musical and theatrical appointments from 18th to 29th of March in famous places of the city of Naples.
In particular, on Saturday 19th of March, at the Real Papal Basilic of San Francesco di Paola (Plebiscito Square), the concert IL GIARDINO SPIRITUALE (the spiritual garden) of the ENSEMBLE FLORILEGIUM VOCIS will take place. Stabat Mater al Rione Terra di Pozzuoli

If you want enjoy an unusual and original Good Friday, on the 25th of March at the 20.00 pm to the Cathedral of Pozzuoli at the Rione Terra, the Orchestra of San Carlo Theather show will be on with the STABAT MATER of Giovan Battista Pergolesi. The “Stabat Mater” is one of the most important medieval prayers and the event will have the soprano Maria Grazia Schiavo, the mezzosoprano Eufemia Tufano, the tenor Francesco Marsiglia and Antonio di Matteo on bass as musicians.

An another show, particularly original, is organized by Percussioni Ketoniche whit the Marinelli papal foundry of Agnone, which is called Bell and Sonus, where protagonist will be the interaction of metals, percussions, images, colors and 25 bronze bells played with several hammers, creating a charming and fascinating musical sound. So save the date: Holy Sunday at 20.00 in Piazza del Gesù.

The spring is coming in Naples, and it’s full of events! Thanks to the initiative Settegiornisusette, from 1 March 2016 and for every Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to walk in Castel Sant’ Elmo in a new way, visiting the Piazza d’ Armi, the Bleachers and the walkways of the building; the ramparts, however,will be open seven days a week and will be the stage of many many events organized during the weekend. The first will be with Fernanda Capobianco, that will guide you on a walk on the ramparts of Sant’Elmo, (“Castel Sant’ Elmo says the city”) ; the second one, will be held by the artist Valerio Rocco Orlando, which will ask participants questions and their answer will be the main theme of his artwork.

With the spring arrive (finally!), many initiatives are here. On 19 and 20 March there is the return of Giornate di Primavera of FAI, event based on opening ‘900 extraordinary places, throughout Italy.

Numerous events will be organized in 380 Italian cities, and of course many visits will be organized and enriched by events in Naples and Campania. Places will be churches, castles, archives, historic buildings, beautiful natural lands and areas of archaeological sites, many of these cannot be visited during the year.

Beyond the spring, March this year is also the month of Easter holidays, particularly felt and celebrated in Naples. In fact from March 5 to April 3, the historic center of the city (and especially the Decumani), will host the Fiera di Pasqua 2016, a way to feel tradition and faith, rediscovering values to be remembered in our days. The message of this series of events in Naples is also for the people with disabilities, with the help of institutions and Municipality to find and eliminate architectural barriers. In a Fair featuring guided tours and demonstrations on how to make handcraft works, among the streets of San Gregorio Armeno, there is obviously, a tribute to the typical Neapolitan cuisine: a tour that will take you among little restaurants, pizzerias and traditional pastry shops present in the area.

Sei artisti messicani in Italia” , which will be on at the Institute Cervantes of Naples. Organized by the Mexican Embassy, the exhibition will show works of 39 Mexican artists, now operating in the Italian peninsula, but who never lost the swing and the style of their country of origin, as pictured in their works of contemporary art (which range from photography, painting and ceramics).

Visiting the building you will be able to discover its rich history of curiosities, and then continue the tour with various simulations of what does happen inside the palace every day, ending with a meeting with the Mayor of the city, Luigi De Magistris.

Now time to check the clock: you are granted at least one hour to enjoy the unspeakable views of the Naples seafront … well, you can’t simply stay here in the city and avoit to breathe sea air. Also because the next event is right there and you do not have to move a lot. Inside the Villa Comunale, at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station in Naples, from February 11 until March 31, there is the exhibition “La magia e la memoria dell’immagine”.
Journey begins with the representation of a visible reality, which focuses on the perceived images, not only through our senses, and then continues with the show of instruments (microscopes, enlargers, projectors) humans used to learn and also capture images of what is invisible to the naked eye; admire the photographic equipment … used in the length of many years and discoveries to capture immaterial sensations in material memories, like the one you’ll use to capture every corner of the city, and enjoy every moment, even from far, beautiful in all its glory .

What to do in Naples from  1 to 7 February

For each of you Carnival tourists a little late. with still warm angel wings held in the left hand and a glass of sweet sanguinaccio in the other… Time to party! Backpack on and confettis in the pockets, because events of Carnival in Naples did not end yet.

It will be a special Carnival for children, the one organized by the “Museums of the Center” in Naples, from the 1st to February 9: it will be all in the sign of the natural sciences, and will be held between the Mineral Real Museo, the Zoological Museum, the Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Paleonthology and the Museum of Physics, where children can have a good time with games in prehistoric style , wearing mineral and nice fossils mask.

On February the 5, in the Sanità district the traditional party of social carnival will entertain the whole quarter, and this year it will have as title “I mondi in tasca”; starting from Cavour square, getting right to the heart of the district, you can enjoy a splendid parade with wagons, colors and great music. The purpose of the initiative will be, also this year, to re-evaluate a district known for the numerous concerns, but which is certainly one of the most traditional and central of Naples, heart and fulcrum of the Neapolitan culture.
Now dear travellers, after having eaten so much delicious food in Naples, and after all the interesting initiatives in honour of the Mardi Gras, let’s give us a tone and continue to enjoy the richest culture in the city making a tour to the MANN (the National Archaeological Museum in Naples).

In the February 2016 program of the museum is present the “Incontri di archeologia”, an initiative of the duration of well six months, which it will allow whoever wants, to participate to cultural meetings, lectures, laboratories… and with free entry!

At the historical center of Naples

 

Lacking very little for the Art Night in Naples , expected for December 12 and many are the events in the historical center of Naples that will be during the neapolitan white night. The theme of this year is the culture of the peace and the area interesting at the shows and all of the cultural events is from Duomo Street, pass by Decumani, Borgo Oregici, Toledo Street until Plebiscito Square, rather the historical center of Naples.

From the afternoon until late at night churches, museums, shops, workshops, schools and shops remain open with events, concerts and performances for tourists and citizens. Not only places indoors but square and historical galleries too, such as Galleria Principe ed Umberto, those will be the perfect location for a party dedicated to young people. The December 12 will also be a gastronomic event not to be missed: in Gesù Square there will be a preview of the second edition of the “Naples Strit Food Festival” with many varieties of dishes of street food and low cost. After a successful first year on the seafront in Naples, back street food Made in Naples: panzarotti, pizza a portafoglio, zeppole, fritturine and typical Neapolitan cakes as baba, sfogliatelle and much more.

From noon until late at night, in Gesù Square there will be sympathetic apecar of “Naples Strit Food Festival” by bicycle “BeerETTA” that will distribute draft beer fresh on the streets of the old town. All state museums will stay open until late at night, while in the main squares there will be street performers, live music and traveling shows from the afternoon of 12 December.
During the Night of Art in 2015, also by public transport will remain open throughout the duration of the event: in particular the 1 subway line.

The Basilique of santa Maria della Sanità is one of the most famous and important architectures of Naples, it is a fundamental place of worship for citizens and is known among people for the name of St. Vincent, best known as “O ‘Munacone” because on the inside it holds the statue of the Saint Vincent Ferreri. It was built between 1602 and 1610 by the Dominican Fra Nuvolo, and it is still one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Naples. It’s characterized by a dome covered with yellow and green tiles, which make the basilique perfectly visible through the bridge of Health; the church was built in a neighborhood of the city center and it can be considered a true museum, since there are numerous paintings by Luca Giordano and Andrea Vaccaro: from the inside it leads, after a few steps, to the site of the San Gaudioso catacombs, one of the oldest cemeteries of the city, belonging to early Christian period. Within the walls of this charming place, you will have the chance to watch the evening show “Il Paradiso Pittorico”, a travelling representation made by a group of young and talented actors, who will tell the story of the place, as stories appear in the “Templo vast , amplo et beautiful. ” The event is managed and organized by “La Paranza”, composed by a group of youngies who decided to carry out activities dedicated to the appreciation of the area and began telling stories and traditions that belong to those places; the cooperative, in addition to managing since 2006 the catacombs of St. Gaudioso in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, is one of the stars in relation to the management and re-opening to the public of the catacombs of San Gennaro.The event takes place in the Basilica of St. Mary of Health from 6 November 2015 to 29 January 2016, at 20.00 of every Friday night, exclusively by reservation.
